TWC Honors Our Fallen Heroes

Across Time Warner Cable – employees from Los Angeles to Albany, NY – came together to recognize our fallen heroes this past Memorial Day.
More than 4,000 veterans, active-duty and reservists make up TWC’s workforce and many of them are part of the company’s VetNet Employee Network. These dedicated men and women joined other employees to take part in dozens of Memorial Day events across our footprint. TWC volunteers honored those who gave their lives for freedom with graveside tributes and other touching memorials.
Here are just some of the events that paid tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
California
For the second year, Time Warner Cable hosted the Walk for Warriors 5K on Memorial Day in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the run supported New Directions for Veterans; a nonprofit agency that assists homeless veterans throughout southern California.
New York
For a fifth year, the Albany VetNet chapter, along with fellow TWC employees, partnered with other local veterans groups to clean the headstones and cemetery grounds, and placed flags at the grave sites of fallen soldiers at Gerald B.H. Saratoga National Cemetery.
The Syracuse VetNet chapter helped Clear Path for Veterans; a non-profit organization that connects veterans to their communities through wellness, peer support, community outreach and education. TWC volunteers prepared and served a meal and also cleaned up the dining hall where veterans eat for free every Wednesday.
Western New York’s VetNet chapter met at the American Legion 468 in Greece, NY where they helped plant flowers and later traveled to a nearby cemetery to place flags in front of gravestones.
Ohio
TWC employees who are also veterans and service members from the Hamilton office conducted a story-telling hour for students at the Liberty Early Childhood School in Liberty Township. More than 200 students learned about Memorial Day, military culture and how veterans and service members support the nation.
North Carolina
Eastern North Carolina VetNet members from Fayetteville and Raleigh placed flags at the Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery near Fort Bragg and at the Raleigh National Cemetery.
For a third year, TWC and TWC News co-sponsored and provided volunteers for the Valor Games Southeast in Raleigh. The Valor Games are a competition for wounded, ill and injured veterans and active-duty service members to compete in adapted sports/Paralympic-style games including, wheelchair basketball, seated volleyball, archery, rowing, and more.
Texas
Members of the VetNet chapter in Austin supported a veteran recruitment fair at Fort Hood in Killeen. We featured TWC’s veteran recruitment efforts in this video posted last November.
For five years, employees in North Texas have supported Memorial Day visitors to Pecan Grove Historic Cemetery; one of the oldest cemeteries in North Texas located near Dallas. VetNet members and other employee volunteers continued the annual day of service by helping to guide visitors and direct traffic during the busy holiday.
