TWC Sets New Goal to Reduce Carbon Intensity by 30 Percent
Last week, TWC took another step forward in our commitment to “Go Green” by announcing a new two-year goal to meet a 30 percent carbon intensity reduction by the end of 2016. Through our Go Green initiative, we’re working to use fewer natural resources and generate less waste. We are committed to making a positive impact on our environment and will continue to raise awareness about sustainability and environmental issues.
In March, we announced our achievement of a 38 percent carbon intensity reduction, surpassing the 15 percent two-year goal set in 2012. We carried that momentum forward and have already been making progress on our new goal with an emphasis on:
• investing in fuel efficient vehicles;
• reducing cooling power consumption;
• pursuing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) elements in all new buildings; and
• seeking renewable energy opportunities.
Recently, TWC gained national recognition for making its fleet more environmentally friendly. We received accreditation from the NAFA Fleet Management Association as a NAFA Sustainable Fleet for successfully demonstrating progress toward reducing total emissions and the negative environmental impact made by extraneous carbon fuel usage. Additionally, TWC is a finalist in the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation 2015 Corporate Citizenship Awards for Best Environmental Stewardship Program. Check out my recent 3BL post on this progress.
TWC employees have continued to support the company’s commitment to Go Green through our employee Green Team program. I’m privileged to lead that company-wide initiative and work alongside our 19 teams across the country. These teams are focused on increasing environmental awareness among fellow colleagues, finding opportunities to improve operational efficiency, and promoting environmental sustainability in our communities through volunteerism.
There is great progress being made in our “Go Green” initiative at TWC. We have seen encouraging results over the past few years and will continue our work, pushing forward to meet our new goal.
