Two Kimberly-Clark Manufacturing Sites Recognized as Arkansas Recycler of the Year
On October 1, 2015 the Conway and Maumelle Facilities were presented the Corporate Recycler of the Year Award by the Arkansas Recycling Coalition (ARC). The Corporate Recycler of the Year Award recognizes businesses or organizations that have developed successful waste reduction programs which include source reduction, beneficial reuse, landfill diversion, sustainable recycling practices, and the purchase of recycled/recyclable products into their office and/or manufacturing operations.
The two facilities were recognized for their 45 year history of being a sustainability partner in Arkansas, and for their employee driven waste reduction and recycling programs. In the past 5 years the two facilities have reduced process waste by nearly 50%, and over the last 10 years have recycled or reused over 90% of the waste generated. In 2014 the two plants collectively recycled or reused nearly 16,000 tons of process waste. In addition, most of the waste materials from these two facilities are sold to companies in the state of Arkansas as input materials to their processes.
The Arkansas Recycling Coalition (ARC) unites large and small companies, government agencies, nonprofit organizations, and individuals in a common effort to promote REDUCE, REUSE, REPURPOSE and RECYCLE as the primary means of sustainable waste management in Arkansas. The ARC is committed to assisting members in improving their recycle skills and techniques through education, special studies, research and the exchange of ideas and technical knowledge.
