Two SCS Sustainably Grown Certified Clients Named “Produce Trailblazer” Award Winners
Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. and Peri & Sons Farms Cited by Grocery Headquarters for Sustainability Achievements
Each year, Grocery Headquarters Magazine recognizes the country’s most notable growers, packers and distributors of fresh produce. This year’s 2016 Produce Trailblazer Awards, handed out earlier this month, included Del Monte Fresh Produce N.A. and Peri & Sons Farms, both of whom were cited for their sustainable agriculture initiatives.
In the last year, Del Monte’s pineapple farms and canning operations in Kenya, banana farms in Guatemala and Costa Rica, and pineapple farm in Costa Rica all achieved Sustainably Grown certification by SCS Global Services. And this year, Peri & Sons farms became the first domestic onion farming operation to achieve the Sustainably Grown certification. The SCS Sustainably Grown standards is among the world’s leading sustainable agriculture standards, encompassing rigorous environmental, social, and economic criteria.
