UN Global Compact Bulletin (December 2013)
UN Global Compact Bulletin (December 2013)
On 8 November, the Philippines experienced what is potentially the worst natural disaster in its history. With nearly 10 million people affected and more than 600,000 people currently displaced, there is an urgent need for assistance in the wake of the devastation wrought by Typhoon Haiyan.
The United Nations and its humanitarian partners are ramping up relief efforts in the Central Philippines. Local resources and relief are being mobilized to the affected areas, but the scale of the event calls for additional support. The international business community can play an important role. Global Compact participants wishing to support relief and humanitarian efforts can respond in the following ways:
Make a financial contribution to the UN Central Emergencies Response Fund.
Provide pro bono goods or services to the UN through business.un.org.
