Univision Launches Employee Volunteer Program with National Week of Service
Despierta América to Broadcast Live, Coast-to-Coast Coverage of Volunteer Projects on Friday, April 29th in Celebration of El Dia de los Niños (Children’s Day)
NEW YORK, April 26, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Univision Communications Inc. (UCI), the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today launched the Yo Soy Univision Contigo (I Am Univision Contigo) employee volunteer initiative with a national week of service, a companywide celebration of UCI’s mission to empower communities across the country. From San Antonio to Raleigh and New York to Fresno, Univision employees will volunteer at community service projects at schools, children’s hospitals, shelters, and libraries, among other locations throughout the week.
“The launch of Univision’s employee volunteer program speaks to our mission of informing and empowering our community,” said Randy Falco, President and CEO of Univision Communications Inc. “This week of service of Yo Soy Univision Contigo is a celebration of the great work we’ve been doing for nearly 60 years to empower Hispanic families and children across the country.”
The week will culminate with UCI volunteers helping create five new Univision Media Centers in middle-schools in Austin, Chicago, Miami and Los Angeles in celebration of el Dia de Los Niños (Children’s Day) on Friday, April 29th. Despierta América (Wake Up America!), the happiest home on Hispanic television, will ring in the morning with a special live broadcast from the five schools. Popular Univision personalities Karina Banda, Alejandro Berry, Carlos Calderon, Jessica Cediel, Chiquinquirá Delgado, Alejandra Espinoza, Lili Estefan, Jomari Goyso, Jackie Guerrido, Maity Interiano, Fernanda Kelly, Johnny Lozada, Karla Martinez, Raúl de Molina, Pablo “La Torre” Ramirez, Alan Tacher and William Valdés will travel to each school to volunteer alongside colleagues, students, teachers, parents and school administrators.
The Univision Media Centers will provide students with the tools and training to understand how a media newsroom operates and gain experience with production and editing equipment, as well as training from media professionals at Univision. Univision held the ribbon-cutting of the first-ever Univision Media Center at the New Venture Community School in the Bronx, NY earlier this year.
The Yo Soy Univision Contigo week of service is an extension of Univision Contigo, UCI’s award-winning community empowerment platform that helps the communities it serves achieve greater attainment and focuses on four pillars: Education, Health, Prosperity and Civic Participation. Univision Contigo reflects UCI’s mission to inform, entertain and empower Hispanic America with initiatives that leverage UCI’s vast array of television, digital, radio and mobile assets along with its local operations throughout the U.S. to serve its communities nationwide.
