An executive of the United States Chamber of Commerce says Cedar Rapids can help other communities recover from a disaster by sharing lessons learned in the wake of the Floods of 2008.
“One of the problems we have right now in this country is that we don’t do recovery,” Stephan Jordan, senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber, told about 800 people attending the Cedar Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce annual meeting Thursday at the Crown Plaza Five Seasons Hotel ballroom.
“It seems like all the time we’re constantly reinventing the way that we respond to disasters. After Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. government set up an adhoc commission on recovery. Where did all of that learning from Katrina go?”
