U.S. Chamber Foundation Partners with Tyco to Develop Tools for Small Business Safety, Security
New Initiative Will Give Small Business Leaders and Local Chambers Resources to Prevent Theft, Safeguard Against Workplace Crime
WASHINGTON, July 20, 2016 /3BL Media/ - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Tyco Cares Foundation today announced a partnership to create and distribute online resources designed to educate small business owners and chambers of commerce on steps they can take to ensure a safe, crime-free work environment.
"Each year, business theft results in billions of dollars of lost revenue. It’s imperative that employers be prepared with comprehensive tools and strategies to stop crime before it occurs,” said Marc DeCourcey, senior vice president of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. “With the U.S. Chamber Foundation’s experience working with local chambers throughout the country, we will be able to put these tools in front of America’s small business owners who need to protect their assets and employees.”
The resources, which will be known as Safety and Security Quick Guides, will empower businesses and chambers of commerce to create safer business environments and provide tools and strategies to mitigate crime. The Quick Guides will feature easy-to-use tutorials on topics including burglary, employee crime, workplace violence, active shooter response, and more.
The Quick Guides will provide resources and practical steps for business owners to:
- Understand the top security threats they face;
- Identify strategies owners and employees can take before a crime occurs to limit resource loss;
- Reduce business vulnerability to external threats;
- Work with employees to design fast-response plans when an incident occurs.
"At Tyco, we feel a deep responsibility to communities where we live and work,” said Art Jones, Vice President, Global Public Affairs, and President, the Tyco Cares Foundation. “We are committed to creating safer and smarter communities by supporting business owners and employees in promoting safety and preventing crime and violence at work and in our neighborhoods.”
The Safety and Security Quick Guides will make it easy for business owners to create safe workplaces. The tips and strategies were gathered through Tyco’s extensive experience providing more than three million customers worldwide with security products and services. The Safety and Security Quick Guides will include topics such as:
- Top Workplace Vulnerabilities
- Fire Safety Protocols
- Active Shooter Strategies
- Burglar Prevention Strategies
- Security Buyers Guide
- The Anatomy of a Workplace Crime
"Having worked with business owners domestically and abroad, we see the need for increased protection and security preparation. Making businesses safer allows for economic competitiveness and sustainable communities,” Jones explained.
The Safety and Security Quick Guides will be a web-based platform launched in early fall of 2016. They will be distributed to local chambers and small business owners throughout the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s network.
