Veteran-Founded Booz Allen Marks Another Year of Military Support

As a veteran-founded company, Booz Allen is committed to those who’ve served and their families. From mobile apps to scholarship programs and beyond, here are highlights of how the firm lived out its commitment to veterans and military families in 2019.

Vital support for sailors and spouses

The “Keep What You Earned” campaign for the Navy Alcohol Abuse Prevention (NAAP) office featured video interviews and the “Pier Pressure” mobile app to impart the risks of driving under the influence. An initiative for sailors, by sailors, “Keep What You’ve Earned” reached roughly three-quarters of all sailors and contributed to a 51 percent decrease in driving under the influence and a 67 percent increase in friends or coworkers finding a safe ride home.

Another priority is the career growth and mobility of people married to service members. With the firm’s sponsorship of the Hiring Our Heroes military spouse fellowship program, Booz Allen became the first corporate sponsor to fund 100 corporate fellowships exclusively for military spouses.

Empowering veterans, businesses, and knowledge exchange

This year and every year, Booz Allen recognizes and values skills developed in military service. More than 30 percent of the firm’s employees are veterans. One example is Victor Morris. The former U.S. Army infantry platoon leader and company commander is now a defense analyst and planner supporting U.S. Army Europe’s Joint Multinational Readiness Center and the Headquarters’ new Identity & Exploitation (IDEX) Operations Branch, which enhances force protection and intelligence capabilities across military operations and unified action partners.

Booz Allen is also an active supporter of veteran-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses like DarkBlade Systems Corporation, which delivers scientific, engineering, technical, and training services to the Department of Defense and intelligence community. For the seventh year, The National Veteran Small Business Coalition (NVSBC) recognized the firm’s work with its Champion of Veteran Enterprise Award.

Finally, Booz Allen proactively strengthens bonds between the military and business worlds through initiatives like the Public-Private Talent Exchange, in which DoD and private-sector participants expand their understanding of each other’s operations. This year, a government defense engineer and contracts supervisor gained valuable insights from six months onsite with Booz Allen, while public-sector immersion prepared two Booz Allen employees for their next leadership roles.
