VolunteerConnect’s Work with Pro Bono Professionals Acknowledged by Joint New Jersey State Legislative Resolution
PRINCETON, NJ, October 16, 2014 /3BL Media/ - A New Jersey Joint Legislative State Resolution by Senator Turner, Assemblyman Gusciora and Assemblywoman Watson Coleman this week acknowledges VolunteerConnect’s accomplishments for community leadership, professional achievement and successfully connecting business, professionals and nonprofits to make a social and economic impact within the community-at-large.
VolunteerConnect Executive Director Amy Klein said: “I am thrilled the State of New Jersey is recognizing the important impact we are making for area nonprofits. There are so many willing professionals who want to share their skills and give back in an effective and rewarding way.”
VolunteerConnect goes beyond the traditional need for volunteers to roll up their sleeves to serve meals at soup kitchens, pass out water at a 5K run, or stuff envelopes. Instead, the organization adds additional value by matching skilled volunteers with the strategic needs of Central New Jersey nonprofit organizations.
Business professionals -- whether employed, in transition, retired or at home with children -- are using their skills, degrees and talents to complete mission-critical projects that nonprofits otherwise might not be able to afford. These “skills-based volunteers” or “pro bono volunteers” are working in communities to help nonprofits with, for example, business plans, marketing efforts, technology advisement, program development and strategic planning.
VolunteerConnect has worked with area organizations such as: The American Conference on Diversity, The Boys & Girls Club of Mercer County, Habitat for Humanity of Trenton, Isles, Mill Hill Child & Family Development Center and The New Jersey Coalition for Battered Women. By sharing their professional talents, skills-based volunteers allow nonprofits to better serve their clients while continuing to direct their finances to client needs.
Klein also noted the Resolution is well timed to honor skilled volunteers during Pro Bono Week (October 19-25, 2014). Pro Bono Week celebrates the pro bono ethic across all professions that use their talents to make a difference.
Klein added: “Acknowledging and thanking the many professionals that have been quietly creating an impact on area nonprofits is vital. This Resolution truly acknowledges each of them for the work they are doing to create change in our communities.”
