There is a need of cost-effective tool for early and accurate detection of cardiac illnesses. The developed device uses heart sounds for the detection of early-stage heart disease. This makes a stethoscope a cost-effective and simple to use tool where the there is scarcity of doctors.
Illuminum Greenhouses: Smart Greenhouses for Africa-SmartGFA
Use of outdated farming technologies coupled with the frequent attack of pests and diseases while depending only on rain for water for crops greatly affects 93% of farmers in Africa. By providing affordable greenhouses and drip kits equipped with solar-powered sensors that automate irrigation, we are able to protect crops while increasing yield by data analysis through the wireless sensors, enabling the internet of things to penetrate and reach the base of pyramid farmers.
Often, medical supplies in urban centers are unable to reach rural patients in a timely, cost effective way due to poor road infrastructure. During times of emergency this is often fatal. Using a smart aerial logistics technology, Arone provides cheap and reliable delivery of blood and medical supplies, bridging the gap between urban clinics and rural patients in under 15 minutes.
Roughly 1.1 billion people have no access to electricity according to International Energy Agency. About 84% living in rural areas and more than 95% reside in sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. Despite a number of off-grid connections in East Africa alone over the past six years, rural electrification has been slow due to challenges of remote monitoring.
