Voya Financial and The American College Announce Second Quarter Veteran Scholarship Recipient
June 29, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Voya Financial, Inc. (NYSE: VOYA), announced today that it has awarded its second quarter scholarship to financial counselor Desiree Kaul, who is committed to advancing financial literacy in her community. Desiree is married to veteran Army Major Michael Kaul, who transitioned from active duty last year.
As is the case with many military families, Desiree has relocated frequently since marrying her husband in 1999. Each time she arrived at a new base, she would immerse herself in the community in any way that she could, including volunteering as a financial counselor. In 2012, she was awarded a Fellowship from financial services regulator FINRA, and received her Accredited Financial Counselor (AFC) designation. Post-military, Desiree now works for Junior Achievement, a non-profit youth organization that teaches financial literacy programs in elementary and high schools around the country.
In partnership with the The American College of Financial Services, Voya awards quarterly scholarships to support veterans and their spouses, and to foster diversity and inclusion in the financial services industry.
“We’re thrilled to help Desiree expand her skills and knowledge.” said Angela D. Harrell, SVP, Corporate Responsibility, and President, Voya Foundation. “Through our partnership with The American College of Financial Services, we are able to support individuals with military backgrounds, like Desiree, who are helping people make better financial decisions to prepare for a secure retirement.”
To further her financial education, Desiree will be completing the Chartered Financial Consultant® designation. “The more knowledge I acquire, the fewer clients I need to refer to colleagues to accommodate their unique needs,” said Desiree. “Success for me means having the credentials and education required to serve clients holistically, and help them get to where they want to be financially.”
The American College of Financial Services scholarship recipients are independently selected based on their application and without any conditions to their future career path or professional affiliation.
