Walgreens Raises More than $800,000 to Support the American Heart Association; Tops Corporate Fundraiser List for 2019 Chicago Heart Walk
More than 1,000 Walgreens employees across the Chicago area turned out to participate in the 2019 American Heart Association Heart Walk held at three locations, Sept. 20-22. Alex Gourlay, Walgreens president and co-COO of Walgreens Boots Alliance co-chaired this year’s campaign.
In addition to an incredible turnout for the walks, fundraising across 137 employee teams from Walgreens Support Office in Deerfield, Illinois, and Chicago Region 10 stores yielded $277,875. An additional $544,300 was generated from in-store PIN pad donations from customers, bringing the company’s total to approximately $820,000.
The funds raised funds will help to address healthcare disparity in Chicago, where there exists a 30-year gap in life expectancy depending on where you live.
“Chicago is one of the best cities in the world, yet the zip code you live in can impact your life expectancy,” said Gourlay. “Our purpose at Walgreens is to champion the health and well-being of every community in America because we believe everyone deserves to live a good, healthy life.”
