Wrapping up 2021 the Un-Carrier Way
Even with 2022 right around the corner, T-Mobile isn’t ready to close the book on its 2021 Season of Giving quite yet. The Un-carrier is continuing to support the communities it serves with even more donations to cap off the year.
Following T-Mobile's Season of Giving, which raised over $1.2 million to help families cover the costs of holiday gifts via Pay Away the Layaway, the Un-carrier also announced additional funding for technology projects in classrooms across the country in partnership with DonorsChoose.
“Whether we’re helping families pay for holiday gifts or bridging the digital divide in classrooms across the country, T-Mobile is always looking for opportunities to mobilize as a force for GOOD – not just during the holiday season but every day of the year,” said Janice V. Kapner, T-Mobile Chief Communications and Brand Officer.
'Tis the season
On Nov. 30 we kicked off our annual Season of Giving by bringing everyone together to support an organization that helps families in need by paying off layaway balances for holiday gifts and supplies. With the generosity of our employees, customers and fans, the Un-carrier and the T-Mobile Foundation were able to donate over $1.2 million to Pay Away the Layaway this holiday season.
“Partnering with T-Mobile again this year means the world to us, and it was incredible to see their leadership team, staff, customers and fans show up to spread joy,” said Lee Karchawer, Founder of Pay Away the Layaway. “Together we surprised over 1,900 families in 17 cities with the news that their holiday layaways had been paid off. That creates a ripple effect, spreading kindness to thousands more people around the world -- that's what Pay Away the Layaway is all about.”

But we're not stopping there
As we count down to the #NewYeAR with augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) greetings from members of our leadership team, we recognize the huge role this technology will play in the economy and experiences of the future. We understand the importance of introducing this technology to future generations of innovators, and we’re proud to work year-round with organizations like DonorsChoose that work to make it happen.
That’s why T-Mobile is donating an additional $100,000 to DonorsChoose to fund AR/VR and technology projects at rural schools across the country to help expand students' horizons and foster their creativity with engaging learning curriculums and projects. Inclusive of our #GiveThanksNotPranks and back to school giving campaigns, this brings our total 2021 DonorsChoose contribution to roughly $2.2 million!
“T-Mobile is empowering teachers who want to instill a spirit of innovation in their students,” said Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose. “Right now, technology is among the top resources teachers are requesting on DonorsChoose. Through T-Mobile’s partnership, we want to close the tech gap across U.S. public schools and help launch students into the future of learning.”
Looking ahead to 2022, Team Magenta and our partners are already rolling up our sleeves to keep making a difference in the communities we serve. Guided by the passion of our employees and their tenacious spirit of innovation, the new year will bring even bigger and better opportunities to mobilize for GOOD. #WeWontStop
