WSP USA Partners With EcoChallenge: Drawdown in Recognition of Earth Month
The WSP team placed third in the 2019 and 2020 Drawdown EcoChallenges.
NEW YORK, April 13, 2021 /3BL Media/ — From April 1–30, WSP USA, a leading engineering and professional services consultancy, will participate in the Earth Month EcoChallenge: Drawdown for the fourth year in a row.
In the 2020 EcoChallenge competition, 127 WSP team members from 39 offices joined together to participate in this sustainability-focused initiative.
Hosted by EcoChallenge.org (formerly Northwest Earth Institute), the Drawdown EcoChallenge is a competition that encourages individual and collective actions focused on carbon reduction. Every participant commits to completing specific actions and tracks their progress on the team dashboard.
As the firm's employees continue to grapple with uncertainties in their personal lives and work schedules, this year’s challenge will serve as a catalyst for WSP colleagues to connect and take action.
This year’s team – WSP & Friends EcoChallengers – invites employees to shine a light on encouraging environmental news from around the world and organize activities that can safely be done at home or in the office. Available daily actions range in difficulty, from calculating one’s carbon footprint, to cooking meals with zero waste, to advocating for environmental and equitable solutions/policies. Many of the one-time actions involve learning more about climate solutions, such as electrified transportation, renewable energy, cement alternatives, regenerative agriculture, forest and peatland conservation, and education for women worldwide.
WSP's participation is sponsored by the firm’s newly formed Climate, Resilience & Sustainability (CRS) business line. CRS enables WSP to leverage integrated resources and capabilities to provide complete lifecycle climate impact mitigation and adaptation solutions.
“WSP’s participation in EcoChallenge: Drawdown undoubtedly ladders up to the CRS business line’s vision to make a positive impact through best-in-class, Future Ready™, Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)-centered services in climate resilience, sustainability and emergency management,” said Tom Lewis, CRS national business line leader. “Local office initiatives include a green roof tour in Portland, Oregon; a presentation on renewable tidal energy in Arlington, Virginia; sustainability video learning sessions in Buffalo New York; and an electronics recycling program and education fundraiser in St. Louis, Missouri. I’m looking forward to seeing the impact this year’s EcoChallenge will have on our company.”
WSP is also listed as the challenge sponsor for “Buildings”, the category of actions used to draw down the world’s collective environmental footprint.
“We are thrilled to have WSP sponsor this year's Earth Month EcoChallenge,” said Liz Zavodsky, executive director of EcoChallenge.org. “By continuing to participate in this challenge, it’s amazing to see how the firm engages its employees to build new habits and work towards sustainable solutions for our future.”
