WWF Report Cites SCA as Fore-Runner Within Sustainable Sourcing
July 15, 2016 /3BL Media/ - A new report from WWF International highlights SCA as a good example within sustainable sourcing and sustainability information. According to the report, unlike SCA, the vast majority of leading consumer goods companies and retailers have not taken “meaningful” actions to source sustainably produced commodities.

In its “Slow Road to Sustainability” report, WWF assessed the Consumer Goods Forum* member companies according to actual commitments and progress on sourcing soft commodities, such as palm oil, paper, soy, sugarcane and farmed fish based on WWF-approved standards.
22 of 256 consumer good companies source sustainably
WWF International claimed that only 22 of 256 leading consumer goods companies and retailers have taken constructive action to source sustainably produced “soft” commodities derived from forestry, farming and fisheries, despite making such commitments.
WWF particularly cited concerns that unsustainable production of such commodities potentially contributes to overfishing, water scarcity, deforestation and climate change. It also highlighted a “lack of transparency,” claiming that only 42% of the companies publish sustainability information in their annual report or in a separate sustainability report.
In addition to SCA, companies cited as front-runners included: Grupo Bimbo, General Mills, Marks & Spencer, Coca-Cola Company, Johnson & Johnson, Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund, Sofidel, Colgate-Palmolive, SC Johnson, Nike, Unilever, Coop Switzerland, Kao Corporation, PepsiCo, Waitrose, Danone, Kimberly-Clark, Procter & Gamble, Ferrero, L’Oreal and Royal Ahold.
