You Don’t Have to Have All the Answers to Be a Parent
Gina Francis was still in college when she decided to become a foster parent. She soon got a phone call asking if Mireya, 4, and Christopher, 2, could come stay with her. The siblings had been living in separate foster homes for a year. "I didn’t know how to be a parent. These children didn’t really know how to be siblings. They had been through so much," Gina recalls. "I was young but determined." Mireya and Christopher were only supposed to stay with Gina for two months. Nine years later, they are now an adoptive family of three, living in Illinois. "They are well-adjusted, smart, kind and creative children," says Gina. "Are we perfect? No way. But this choice has been perfect for all three of us. It was truly meant to be." Are you interested in foster care adoption?
