JetBlue Helps Viscardi Students Take Flight

Last week, JetBlue welcomed aboard 12 students from the Viscardi Center a non-profit organization that educates and empowers children with disabilities. The students and their caretakers took flight on the airline’s Blue Bravest A320 aircraft from New York’s JFK Airport to Boston Logan Airport and back – some flying for the first time ever.

AEG Hosts Arroyo Seco Weekend Youth Program

As part of AEG’s community outreach initiative with Pasadena Unified School District in conjunction with conjunction with Arroyo Seco Weekend at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., AEG and Goldenvoice worked with more than 250 high school students in the Pasadena area to provide opportunities to learn about the entertainment industry. Students were exposed to the company’s many facets of the sports and entertainment industry, received advice on future career paths and were provided exclusive behind-the-scenes access to the music and art festival.

Tulane University and Sodexo Partner for Feeding Our Future Summer Program

For the second year in a row, Sodexo’s Dining Services team at Tulane University is providing free and nutritious meals to children at six New Orleans community centers through Sodexo’s Feeding Our Future program. The program, which kicked off Monday, will provide 300 meals every weekday through August 4 to children who are at risk of hunger during the summer months.

Refugee Students Get Scholarships from Las Vegas Charity

Seven South Sudanese teenagers whose families live in a Kenyan refugee camp, will now receive a high school education because of scholarships awarded by the South Sudan Center of America (SSCA), a local Las Vegas charity. SSCA was founded by Biar Atem, a Sands Cares Hero of the Year and Team Member at The Venetian and The Palazzo who was a South Sudanese “lost boy.” He was also named by Fortune magazine as one of the top 50 “Heroes of the 500.” The center seeks to assist and educate South Sudanese refugees living in the United States and abroad.

Duke Energy Invites Students to Learn About Falcons at Indiana Facility

Peregrine falcons may not be on the endangered species list any more, but they’ve got special friends in Indiana. After three falcon chicks were born on a perch at Duke Energy’s Gallagher Station smoke stack B recently, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) retrieved them for banding and a naming ceremony.

Students Help Build Hope for Victims of Hurricane Matthew

Amid the sawdust and hum of power tools, students at East Columbus High School in Lake Waccamaw, N.C., are helping rebuild their community. Students built 50 wooden bed frames in their classroom workshop for Columbus County residents whose homes were damaged by Hurricane Matthew. The October 2016 storm started in Florida and moved up the coast, killing nearly 50 people and damaging more than 100,000 homes and businesses in North Carolina.

DePaul Students Create New Sustainability strategies for FOX Sports and MLB as Part of FOX Sports University

Public Relations students at DePaul University in Chicago met with senior executives from 21st Century Fox, FOX Sports, and Major League Baseball on June 5 to pitch new project ideas and marketing campaigns for the companies’ joint environmental sustainability efforts. The presentation was the result of a semester-long partnership between DePaul and the FOX Sports University program, which allows college students the chance to work directly with sports industry professionals on a real-world problem facing their business. DePaul students were charged with creating new public messaging strategies that raise awareness of FOX Sports and MLB’s sustainability initiatives throughout the baseball season.

Tim Anderson, the 17th overall pick in the 2013 draft, is already well on the way to establishing himself as one the top young shortstops in the Major Leagues. After batting .283 as a rookie in 2016, Anderson began 2017 as the White Sox’ everyday shortstop.
