TOMS and AT&T Help Consumers Take a “Walk in Their Shoes”

TOMS has given more than 60 million shoes to children in need, but as a consumer buying a pair of TOMS shoes, it can be hard to feel the real impact of each purchase. To solve for that, TOMS enlisted the help of AT&T to create "A Walk in Their Shoes," a story of a TOMS customer who travels from California to Colombia to meet the child who benefited from his purchase.

Levine Cancer Institute Receives $1.6 Million Grant for Lung Cancer Program

Carolinas HealthCare System’s Levine Cancer Institute today announced that it has received a $1.6 million grant from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation, to support their program, Lung B.A.S.E.S. 4 Life, an innovative model that will feature a mobile unit for early identification of lung cancer coupled with a comprehensive education, navigation and clinical intervention program to support better outcomes for lung cancer patients.

Global Cities, Inc. Convenes Representatives from Over 20 U.S. School Districts & Educators from Europe to Promote Early Global Digital Education

Twenty-five U.S. school districts from 16 states participated in a symposium on global digital education convened by Global Cities, Inc., a program of Bloomberg Philanthropies. More than 20 of the school districts were from the largest school districts in the U.S. including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Las Vegas, Ft. Lauderdale and Houston. In addition, the symposium was attended by educators from Barcelona, London, and Warsaw.

Technology and its ability to automate routine tasks is not only changing our lives, but also transforming the way we support meaningful causes. Writing a check is like writing a letter when there’s email. It’s wildly less efficient than using electronic payments. The global movement toward electronic payments is far more than just a “flavor of the day.” According to the latest survey done by the AFP (Association of Finance Professionals), 80% of North American companies are transitioning their B2B payments from paper checks to electronic payments, and several large countries have already ceased using checks completely.
