Mental Health America Recognizes Booz Allen for Corporate Excellence

What do an Instagram egg, a critically acclaimed film with Steve Carell and Timothée Chalamet, and Booz Allen have in common? All were recognized at the 2019 Mental Health America (MHA) awards for their contributions to educating, advocating, and providing support on mental health issues.

MHA’s first award for workplace mental health

Booz Allen received MHA’s first-ever Mental Health Corporate Excellence award, which recognizes corporations whose programs, accommodations, and training support mental health in the workplace.

“Booz Allen Hamilton exemplifies its dedication to mental health by its commitment to maintaining a work environment that provides its 25,000-plus employees with the tools they need to be their best, both physically and mentally,” MHA said in its awards materials, citing Booz Allen’s extensive Employee Assistance Program as one example. Booz Allen’s EAP provides—free of charge—up to eight clinical counseling and/or crisis intervention sessions for employees and their spouses, partners, and dependents.

The 2019 awards, presented June 13-14 in Washington, DC, recognized a diverse array of recipients, including several advocates who bring their own experiences with mental illness to their work. Other awardees included the Egg Gang, whose Instagram account @world_record_egg contributed to global awareness of mental health issues, as well as the Amazon Studios film “Beautiful Boy,” the ABC television show “A Million Little Things,” and a school behavioral health center that creates trauma-informed environments and implements prevention and early intervention services.

The awards ceremony is part of a week-long conference uniting consumers, providers, family members, and advocates to talk about critical and emerging mental health issues. This year’s theme focuses on the intersection of mental health and chronic conditions.
