Wendy’s Wonderful Kids: Finding Forever Families for Children in Foster Care

Jun 24, 2016 12:00 PM ET

The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program is the signature program of the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. Started in 2004, with only seven sites, the program has expanded to 215 sites, including all 50 states and six Canadian provinces.

How does it work?

The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption provides grants to private and public adoption agencies. The agencies use those funds to hire specially-trained adoption recruiters whose sole mission is to find forever homes for the children who have been in foster care the longest. WWK recruiters use a child-focused recruitment model that relies on getting to know each child and the adult connections that already exist in their life. It’s about finding the best placement for the child.

Who are the children served by this program?

WWK recruiters focus on children over the age of 9, sibling groups, children with physical or mental challenges and children who have experienced a failed adoption.

What have they lived through before their WWK recruiter takes them on?
