World Environment Center Elects New Board Members and 2017 Officers

WASHINGTON, D.C., Janurary 18, 2016 /3BL Media/ -- As part of an ongoing commitment to expand its thought leadership, diversity and effectiveness as a global sustainability organization, the World Environment Center’s Board of Directors has elected three individuals for Board membership. They are:

·         Mike Barry, Director of Sustainable Business, Marks & Spencer (United Kingdom)

·         Carol Ryerkerk Powell, Global Head and Vice President, Environment, Health, Safety & Sustainability, Bristol-Myers Squibb (United States)

·         Isabel Studer, Executive Director, Mexico and Northern Central America, The Nature Conservancy (Mexico)

In addition to these appointments, the Board elected the following individuals as its 2017 Officers:

·         Francisco Suárez Hernández, New Business Project Director, Coca-Cola FEMSA—Chair

·         Linda J. Fisher—Vice Chair

·         Scott Fulton, President, Environmental Law Institute—Secretary

·         Liz Maw, President & CEO, Net Impact—Treasurer

“The World Environment Center is delighted that global thought leaders representing important institutions are committing their time and ideas to advancing sustainability through our programs and initiatives,” commented WEC Board Chair Francisco Suárez Hernández of Coca-Cola FEMSA. “Our governance and WEC’s impact are made stronger through their participation.”

The Board expressed great appreciation for the leadership provided by two individuals that have completed their service: Mr. Jeff Seabright, Chief Sustainability Officer, Unilever (United Kingdom) and Ms. Aileen Ionescu-Somers, Business School Lausanne (Switzerland).

The three new members and 2017 Officers join these continuing Board members:  Wayne Balta, Vice President, Corporate Environmental Affairs and Product Safety, IBM (United States); Sergio Kato, Corporate Vice President, Sustainable Management, Ricoh (Japan); Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, Communications & Sustainability, SC Johnson (United States); Scott Tew, Executive Director, Center for Energy Efficiency & Sustainability, Ingersoll Rand (United States); and Rupert Thomas, Vice President, Environment, Royal/Dutch Shell (The Netherlands).
