The 20th Annual LIVESTRONG Challenge in Austin is Gearing Up
Leading cancer foundation hosts multi‐distance ride, walk/run to raise funds that help to improve the lives of people affected by cancer now
As featured on LIVESTRONG.org | Community Fundraising Event
WHAT: On Sunday, October 16, thousands of riders—many of them cancer survivors—and other LIVESTRONG Foundation supporters from not only Texas, but cities and towns across America will come together to honor their courageous fight against cancer during the 20th annual LIVESTRONG Challenge.
It is the only ride that begins and ends in downtown Austin. Additionally, it is open to participants of any skill level. Riders, runners, and walkers from around the country can choose from 20, 45, 65, or 100-mile bike rides through the Texas Hill Country, or LIVESTRONG’s Honor 5k.
The entire family can register for the event online until Oct. 13. On-site registration will be available from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 15 (during packet pickup hours at LIVESTRONG HQ—2201 E. 6th St., Austin) and Oct. 16 on-site at the Palmer Events Center. After the ride and run, participants and spectators are invited to a post-event celebration at the Challenge Village, where a selection of food, beer, music, and products from Austin-based vendors will be on offer.
This year’s event benefits the groundbreaking LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes of the Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin. This $50 million gift to Austin’s new medical school—to be given over the next decade—was announced in 2014. The LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes seek to reinvent the way cancer patients and survivors are cared for and supported. This gift encourages the “re-thinking” of cancer care from prevention to diagnosis, treatment to survivorship. The defining characteristic of the LIVESTRONG Cancer Institutes is patient-centered research and care.
