AEG Partners With Peace Over Violence to Celebrate 20th Annual Denim Day in Honor of Sexual Assault Awareness
AEG, the leading sports and live entertainment company in the world, partnered with Peace Over Violence to further sexual assault awareness for the 20th Annual Denim Day on April 24, 2019.
In addition to encouraging its employees to wear denim to raise awareness about the campaign, AEG agreed to match its employees’ donations to Peace Over Violence, which coupled with the company’s initial pledge, has resulted in an approaching total of $10,000.
The Denim Day campaign began after a ruling by the Italian Supreme Court where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. The following day, the women in the Italian Parliament came to work wearing jeans in solidarity with the victim.
Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape. In this sexual violence prevention and education campaign the organization rallies community members, elected officials, businesses and students to make a social statement with their fashion statement by wearing jeans on this day as a visible means of protest against the misconceptions that surround sexual violence.
Peace Over Violence is a nonprofit 501c3, multicultural, community based and volunteer centered organization dedicated to building healthy relationships, families and communities free from sexual, domestic and interpersonal violence. To achieve this mission, the agency manages five departments delivering the services of Emergency, Intervention, Prevention, Education and Advocacy.
