Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), announced today it has been named a winner in the 2018 BIG Innovation Awards presented by the Business Intelligence Group. The company was recognized for its enterprise-wide approach to innovation.

Bechtel, a global leader in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and Station Houston, Houston’s hub for technology and innovation, announced today the launch of a corporate partnership to connect local startups with industry experts. The partnership will focus on enhancing opportunities for local entrepreneurs through mentoring and engagement in solving EPC industry challenges.

In the aftermath of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma, it is time to re-think our approach to disaster response and recovery. Since 1980, average annual disaster costs have doubled every decade. This is financially unsustainable.

In Weledi, a town located 330 km from the capital city of Addis Ababa, Bechtel experts in partnership with the local government, NGOs, and community; and Engineers Without Borders, worked together to strengthen the resilience of the community against future health hazards that arose from water contamination.

As part of Bechtel’s commitment to contribute 100 ideas to support the United Nation’s 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this case study examines how text analytics can help advance a business case for the SDGs in terms of investment, project opportunity or risk management. Countries benefit from more strategic business investments, projects or programs that can advance a country’s SDG implementation process.

The Chevron-operated Wheatstone LNG Plant on the coast of Western Australia is one of the continent’s biggest natural resource projects. It will have the capacity to supply 8.9 million metric tons of liquefied natural gas per year—equal to 5 percent of Asia’s 2017 use—to meet the soaring demand for cleaner energy in the Asia-Pacific market. Wheatstone will also deliver 200 terajoules per day (2.2 billion cubic meters per year) of gas to Western Australian consumers. Bechtel is performing the engineering, procurement, construction, construction management, and commissioning of facilities to process and liquefy the gas, the tanks that store the fuel at -260 Fahrenheit (-162 Celsius), and the export terminal.

By the time Bechtel’s Alba Potline 6 Aluminum project in Bahrain reaches peak construction in mid-2018, there could be more than 10,000 skilled craft workers on site. Like most construction projects in the Middle East, Alba will rely to a large extent on the commitment and dedication of expatriate workers, from India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, and other countries.
