Nearly one year after hurricanes Helene and Milton impacted the state, Duke Energy Florida continues to complete energy infrastructure investments to boost power reliability, strengthen the grid
Hummel and other lineworkers build and maintain power lines and equipment that carry about 6,300 megawatts of electricity from a diverse mix of power plants to nearly 890,000 Hoosier homes and businesses.
The people Ghent cares about also include Duke Energy customers – there are 1.9 million in Florida. Her team maintains and improves the electric grid to make sure they have service.

Duke Energy today announced the recipients of $1 million in grants through the Duke Energy Foundation for North Carolina nonprofits working to advance social justice and racial equity.
“We are proud to stand with the 1.5 million veterans throughout Florida, and this includes more than 360 Duke Energy Florida employees who have served or are currently serving in the military,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president
The Duke Energy Foundation awarded $115,000 in grants to 12 organizations in southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky to fund local wildlife conservation, healthy habitats and environmental projects.
Now that Hurricane Ian has pulled away from Florida and Duke Energy crews are in the field assessing damage and restoring power, the company has pledged $100,000 to the Florida Disaster Fund to aid communities impacted by the storm.
In the wake of Hurricane Ian’s impacts across Florida, South Carolina and North Carolina, the Duke Energy Foundation has committed $250,000 to support relief and recovery efforts.
