The Freeport-McMoRan Foundation in Chile Expands Technical School in Calama
The Colegio Don Bosco De Calama recently inaugurated new specialties workshop facilities with the support of Minera El Abra, a Freeport-McMoRan company. The new building provides additional workshop and laboratory space and is disability accessible.

Health & Healthcare

PT Freeport Indonesia, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Supports Healthcare for Indigenous Communities
PT Freeport-Indonesia’s Partnership Fund for Community Development (LPMAK) provides healthcare to residents of Mimika Regency in Papua, Indonesia, at the Mitra Masyarakat Hospital in Timika.

The hospital opened in 2000 and is now a four-star accredited healthcare facility, providing access to healthcare for a previously underserved community.

Freeport-McMoRan’s PT Freeport Indonesia Partnership Fund Supports Education for Indigenous Schoolchildren in Papua
PT Freeport-Indonesia’s Partnership Fund for Community Development (LPMAK) provides educational facilities and support for local community members.

The LPMAK sponsors the children of the seven local indigenous tribes near the PTFI operations to attend boarding school. Children from ages 6-11 live in dormitories at the Taruna Papua Boarding School, which was built with funding from the LPMAK. Currently the Taruna Papua Boarding School has 412 students enrolled and residing there. This is just one of four boarding schools the LPMAK has provided for Papuan schoolchildren in the Mimika Regency and Central Java.

Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde promotes the creation, improvement and development of micro and small enterprises through its various programs in Arequipa, Peru. These development programs provides financial support and technical assistance to entrepreneurs. Business owners in the districts of Uchumayo, Tiabaya, Yarabamba and La Joya are able to participate.

Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Provides Health Care to Remote Regions
Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde has partnered with the Regional Government of Arequipa (GRA) in Peru to provide free healthcare services to citizens of the region. Cerro Verde is proving training for and remunerating medical personnel who travel on health care buses to provide care for community members. The buses are currently on a thirteen-month tour of the region.

Cerro Verde has supported the Promotion for Agricultural Development Project in surrounding communities near its operations in Arequipa, Peru. The program benefits the farmers of Tiabaya, Uchumayo, Yarabamba, La Joya and Hunter. The Promotion for Agricultural Development Project started in 2012 with the aim of improving the quality and quantity of agricultural and animal yields to increase the economic income of local farmers.

Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Supports Early Childhood Education in Arequipa
Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan company, is constructing a new school building for early childhood education. Children who live in the neighborhood of Congata, in the Uchumayo district of Arequipa, Peru, will attend the new school buildings in the fall of 2018. The new building complex for the school will include classrooms for three-year-olds, as well as a multipurpose lounge, administrative offices and a cafeteria.

Cerro Verde, a Freeport-McMoRan Company, Supports Micro and Small Enterprise Development
Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde (SMCV) contracted with Cáritas Arequipa to educate and train a group of Uchumayan women in Arequipa, Peru, in Cosmetology. The program required 300 hours of coursework and practical training. In December 2017, 26 Uchumayinas graduated from the program, and were supplied with cosmetology and salon supplies in order to be able to start their own businesses with the necessary tools.

Freeport-McMoRan Invests in Skills Development for Indigenous Entrepreneurs
PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), a Freeport-McMoRan company, has an extensive Community Economic Development program in the region where it operates in Papua, Indonesia. PTFI’s Social Local Development department worked in partnership with the local government and the Timika Catholic Church to host boat operation and safety training and fishing skills for local entrepreneurs.

Freeport-McMoRan Invests in Skills Development for Indigenous Fish Industry Workers
PT Freeport Indonesia (PTFI), a Freeport-McMoRan company, has an extensive Community Economic Development program in the region where it operates in Papua, Indonesia. Mangrove crabs (Scylla serrata) commonly called ‘Karaka’ by locals in the coastal Mimika Regency of Papua, Indonesia, is a coastal fishery commodity. Karaka are large and meaty crabs, and are an economically important species of crab that are found in estuaries and mangroves.
