Retail Revival

We believe one of the most meaningful ways we can make an impact is by empowering small businesses. We are driven to help local retailers use the power of technology and the global marketplace to keep their doors open, hire from their communities, live where they work, and continue to enliven their local economy.

Our innovative Retail Revival program helps train local business owners to sell their unique inventory in a global marketplace, while strengthening ties within their local business community.

Today, Brent is one of more than 100 small businesses participating in eBay’s Retail Revival program, a 12-month economic development pilot. Retail Revival harnesses the power of technology and eBay’s global marketplace to support and grow small businesses, strengthen local economies and foster vibrant community growth.

Applications Now Open for eBay's 2018 SHINE Awards for Small Business
In the two years we’ve held the awards, we’ve received inspiring entries from eBay sellers across the nation who shared their small business stories and told us how eBay helped them pursue their dreams. Each year, we select a number of finalists and then ask the community to vote for the sellers they think are making a difference.

Sustainable Development Goals

Giving Small Businesses the World--While Keeping Jobs Close to Home
Through Retail Revival, we are working with the city of Akron and other partners to identify promising local retail businesses and onboard them to eBay, providing store set-up support and ongoing training. The Akron pilot is our first in the U.S., but it builds on similar–and highly successful–programs we’ve executed in communities in Europe.

Sustainable Development Goals

Creating Opportunity for All
Today, we take for granted how easy and seamless it has become to conduct business with one another and trade online. We order food on a mobile app from almost any restaurant and it arrives at our door within an hour; we get in a stranger’s car for a ride across town; we spend our family vacations in some other stranger’s home. It’s all so normal now -- no big deal. But in 1995, when Mark Fraser of Salt Spring Island, Canada, sent $14.83 to a person he’d never met (Pierre) —never even spoken with —to buy a laser pointer he saw on a website, it was a remarkable act and started an even more remarkable movement.
