Cox Communications Celebrates Black History Month Throughout Virginia
CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- Cox Communications will celebrate African-American culture and contributions throughout February in recognition of Black History Month. Cox will highlight culturally relevant programming available OnDEMAND, featuring programming selections that focus on African-American history, documentaries that shed light on African-American triumphs, historical dramas, feature films, comedy and music. Additionally, Cox, in partnership with TV One, will be supporting events in Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia and Roanoke to recognize and celebrate African-Americans and their culture.

Hampton Roads
In Hampton Roads, Cox will partner with TV One, the Urban League of Hampton Roads and local NAACP chapters to host the second annual NAACP Image Awards Watch Party. This event will take place on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Portsmouth. Awards presented by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will showcase and honor outstanding people of color in film, television, music, and literature.
Northern Virginia - Fairfax County
Fairfax County, in partnership with Cox Communications, will be presenting a Black History Month Celebration at the Fairfax County Government Center on Friday, February 20, 2015. This year's program, A Century of Black Life, History and Culture will begin at 5:45 p.m. with a family-friendly reception featuring performances by dancers, choirs and musicians and will include remarks from community leaders and special guest April Ryan, White House correspondent for American Urban Radio Networks (AURN) and regular panelist on Washington Watch on TV One. The main program, a keynote address by David E. Garnet, President of I AM Solutions, LLC, will follow at 7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Roanoke
In Roanoke, Cox is a proud sponsor of the Urban Professional League's (UPL) Community Achievement Awards. The UPL focuses on promoting professionalism, networking, and community service amongst young African American professionals throughout theRoanoke and New River Valleys. This event will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 7pm in Fitzpatrick Hall at the Jefferson Center. Awards will be presented to three outstanding African-Americans, recognizing their exceptional contributions to education, business and community following a keynote address by special guest April Ryan.
TV One launched in 2004 and offers a broad range of real-life and entertainment-focused original programming, classic series, movies and music designed to entertain, inform and inspire a diverse audience of adult Black viewers.
