eBay is a company with a mission that is bigger than any single moment: to create opportunity for all. By championing a diverse and inclusive workforce, we not only aim to reflect our customer base but also to position ourselves to make a positive impact on society.
Throughout June, July and August, eBay joined many across the world in celebrating the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and others (LGBTQ+) community during Pride Month celebrations.
This year’s events marked the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, a pivotal moment in the fight for equality and LGBTQ+ rights. As a nod to this important moment, eBay's theme for this year's events was #DoSomethingBrave, which served to encourage everyone everywhere to be courageous in championing inclusion. And when we all support one another, real change happens.
eBay’s Global United in PrideCommunity of Inclusion, comprised of passionate employees from all backgrounds, organized events spanning more than a dozen locations around the world. Employees participated in local parades and marches, Drag Queen Bingo, lunch and learns, team offsites and more. This year, we also raised thousands of dollars through an eBay for Charity campaign auctioning experiences and memorabilia in support of GLAAD, a nonprofit media organization driving an inclusive narrative and fostering a culture of change.
“It is very exciting to work for a company that celebrates the human being!” said Erik Markette, a Global Customer Experience support coach from our Austin office. “It’s easy to believe eBay has a large communal impact, but it is this kind of celebration that shows you the positive influence we as a company – and as people – can have. Walking together as one is by far the easiest way to feel human and together, while smiling and cheering along the way.”
Chief Diversity Officer Damien Hooper-Campbell echoed this sentiment. “Pride is not only a time to celebrate the advancements that have been made for LGBTQ+ equality, but also a moment to strengthen our commitment to the work that is still ahead of us on this ongoing journey,” he said. “We honor the trailblazers who have been courageous in leading us to date and encourage those who are yet to come.”
