Frostys (and Your Phone!) for a Cause

Free Wendy’s® Frostys® are adding up to a half a million dollar donation to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and we couldn’t be more grateful. From June through December, T-Mobile customers who download the company’s app will receive T-Mobile alerts each week, which includes a coupon for a free Wendy’s Frosty. In return, T-Mobile is donating $500,000 to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption. The Foundation was founded by Wendy’s Founder Dave Thomas who was adopted.

The mission of the Foundation is to dramatically increase the number of adoptions from foster care.. Today, there are more than 100,000 children in foster care in the United States, simply waiting and hoping for a forever family. The dollars that T-Mobile is generously donating will help fund programs of the Foundation, including Wendy’s Wonderful Kids. This program provides accountable grants to private and public adoption agencies. The agencies then hire specially-trained adoption recruiters, whose sole mission is to find permanent, adoptive homes for the children who have been in foster care the longest. Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters focus on those children and youth most at risk of turning 18 and leaving foster care without an adoptive family - older children, sibling groups, children with physical or mental challenges and children who may have given up hope for a family.

Since 2004, the WWK program has found permanent homes for more than 5,500 children and there are nearly 700 more children in the final stages of adoption right now. The gift from T-Mobile is critical to the work of the Foundation and making sure that every child waiting in foster care gets to go home.

The Foundation’s other key initiatives include Adoption Friendly Workplace, a program meant to help employers see the value in adoption benefits. It is accompanied by an annual ranking of the companies in the United States with the best adoption benefits. The Foundation is also a founding partner of National Adoption Day, a grassroots effort on the Saturday before Thanksgiving to raise awareness of and celebrate adoptions – in courtrooms, community centers and gatherings all across America.
