Google Street View Cars to Track Local Air Pollution Data

One of the key challenges in assessing air pollution exposure and its impact on a person’s health is that air quality may be different in locations where a person lives, works or plays. In the city, air quality can vary from block to block, neighborhood to neighborhood, and the existing infrastructure of air monitors is not fully equipped to address these gaps in space and time.                         

Google has now partnered with Aclima, a San Francisco-based air quality technology company, to address this problem by going mobile. Google’s Street View cars will be equipped with fully-loaded air quality monitoring stations. The goal is to use hyper-local data to make better-informed community decisions and support new science and health studies.
