The plight of horses in America is a topic that fortunately is gaining more visibility. As horses are discarded by their owners and end up in slaughterhouses in Mexico or Canada, an increasing number of people are trying to put an end to the horror these animals have to endure en route to their brutal end.

One of the organizations trying to save horses is Peaceable Farm. Founded by husband and wife team, Anne and Tony Goland, they rescue horses at auctions, from where they would otherwise be dispatched to a gruesome fate in inhumane slaughterhouse operations. The USDA estimates that between 100,000 and 150,000 horses are disposed of and slaughtered each year.

Keeping a rescue operation of this nature is no mean feat and it requires a lot of dedication and money. Medical care, food, and shelter for proper rehabilitation can add up to between $500 and $600 per month for each horse. This is the reason that CAN Capital chose Peaceable Farm as the debut beneficiary of its new CAN Match initiative, designed to help charitable organizations to secure capital to fund their work.
