Keeping Dave Thomas’ Legacy Alive and You Can Help
Today the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption celebrates our founder, Dave Thomas on what would have been his 86th birthday.
Mr. Thomas was respected for being a talented businessman and a caring philanthropist; his unceasing desire to improve the lives of North America’s most vulnerable children was arguably his greatest contribution to society.
In honor of Dave Thomas, his Foundation will continue to commit itself to the vision he set forth: to make ensure a loving, permanent family for every child.
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption has one mission: to dramatically increase the number of adoptions from foster care. While Mr. Thomas was not alive to see the creation of the Foundation’s adoption program, Wendy’s Wonderful Kids, it’s a certainty he would be proud of the work done that has found loving families for more than 7,200 children in the United States and Canada.
The Wendy’s Wonderful Kids program allows the Foundation to give funds to adoption agencies, which use those funds to hire specially-trained adoption recruiters. Those recruiters' sole responsibility is to find loving, adoptive homes for the children they serve. Wendy’s Wonderful Kids recruiters focus on older children, sibling groups and children with special needs because those are the children most at risk of not being adopting.
If you’d like to help keep the legacy of Dave Thomas alive, please join our mission, but pledging your support for our nation’s most vulnerable youth. As Dave, would say, “These children are not someone else’s’ responsibility. They are our responsibility.”
