Laura Asiala of PYXERA Global Will Give a TEDx Talk in Traverse City, Michigan
Laura Asiala Encourages Effective Leadership Through Purposeful Engagement
WASHINGTON, DC.,) May 11, 2016 /3BL Media/ - Listen, learn, link, and prepare to leave in order to be an effective leader and global citizen. Laura Asiala, Vice President of Client Relations and Public Affairs at PYXERA Global will give an inspirational TEDx talk May 11 in Traverse City, Michigan entitled The Five Habits of Effective Global Citizens, drawing on these five principles.
Asiala will outline the habits of effective global citizens as she walks the audience through real life examples of leadership that led to great change. Both international and local examples show that with the right approach, anyone can be a global citizen and inspire other leaders and individuals. She encourages individuals to listen, learn, link, and prepare to leave, all while being both good leaders and followers.
“This approach does not only apply to global challenges abroad,” said Asiala. “It applies right here at home—to food deserts in Detroit or the water crisis in Flint. The principles of purposeful engagement can be applied by anyone who seeks to effect change.”
Asiala references past projects that targeted global challenges such as the health and environmental damage caused by traditional cook stoves in communities at the base of the pyramid. One of the leading causes of disease and premature death in underserved markets is due to exposure to smoke and emissions of traditional cooking stoves. The 2010 Sustaintech pro bono team that Asiala uses in her example addressed this challenge, while living the principles of purposeful engagement.
PYXERA Global launches the next generation of corporate citizenship with the Global Health Corporate Champions, in affiliation with the USAID Global Health Fellows Program II. Asiala will introduce the work of this cross-company team and how they will address specific public health issues in Ghana. The Global Health Corporate Champions will use their operational, business, and consulting skills to address specific projects to build better systems and organizations for healthier communities. This project will also require a balance of leading while being led.
