October is LGBTQ+ History Month, shining a light on the milestones and individuals who have led the global movement for equality. Founded in 1994 by Missouri high school teacher Rodney Wilson, October has become a time to celebrate and teach the history of an underserved worldwide community across the globe.
This week, NortonLifeLock will be volunteering at and sending virtual attendees to the Out & Equal Workplace Summit. Out & Equal, one of our nonprofit partners, works to create spaces that celebrate and foster growth for every employee; providing leadership development, training, and networking opportunities to build inclusive and welcoming work environments. With their annual summit, Out & Equal hosts more than 5,000 attendees every year, helping professionals, experts, and community leaders create spaces in which LGBTQ+ employees can thrive. With sessions like Leveraging Your Unique Narrative and Belonging at Work: Fostering Intersectional Allyship, the 2022 Workplace Summit allows for a deep dive on LGBTQ+ inclusion.
In addition to participating in the Summit, we are in the process of providing a grant to Czech Republic-based nonprofit, Pride Business Forum to continue membership in the organization. NortonLifeLock recently merged with cybersecurity company Avast, located in the Czech Republic, and we’re excited to meet some of Avast’s local community partners.
This October, and year round, we support our LGBTQ+ colleagues and communities. We have an active Employee Resource Group, N-PRIDE, provide full spousal and partner healthcare parity, and offer transgender-inclusive insurance coverage, to support our employees and encourage them to bring their full selves to work each day. We have also been named a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ+ Equality by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
