Rebuilding Together Welcomes New Chief Operating Officer Sandra Brooks Henriquez
Life-long housing advocate to lead all operational aspects of the organization
WASHINGTON, January 28, 2015 /3BL Media/ – The national board of directors of Rebuilding Together has elected Sandra Brooks Henriquez as chief operating officer. Henriquez, who has dedicated her life to housing others, will lead all aspects of the operation of Rebuilding Together, including finances, human resources, team management and strategic planning.
Henriquez founded SCBH Associates, LLC, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm that provides services to public and affordable housing owners in the areas of strategic planning, public policy and real estate property management. Previously, Henriquez served as the assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Office of Public and Indian Housing. She was nominated by President Barack Obama, confirmed unanimously by the Senate, and sworn in on June 22, 2009. During her tenure, Henriquez was responsible for development, justification, oversight and administration of annual budgets in excess of $27 billion.
“We are delighted that Sandra has joined Rebuilding Together’s team as our chief operating officer,” said Brad Segal, chair of Rebuilding Together’s national board of directors. “As a life-long advocate for housing, she has extensive experience in serving vulnerable communities; we feel quite fortunate that she has joined the team to lead the operations of our national office.”
Prior to working for HUD, Henriquez was the administrator and chief executive officer of the Boston Housing Authority — one of the nation's largest public housing authorities — for 13 years. She has also worked for Maloney Properties, Inc. and Housing Management and Tenant Services for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s Department of Housing and Community Development. Henriquez was formerly president and director of the Council of Large Public Housing Authorities. Her other board service included ten years serving on the board of YWCA Boston and the New England Baptist Hospital. YWCA Boston recognized Henriquez’s fair housing work in Boston’s public housing communities by naming its Racial Justice Award in her honor.
