Records Set During Largest Day of Caring Event Ever Held in Orlando
More than 1,500 Lockheed Martin volunteers renovate Orlando VA Medical Center’s Lake Baldwin Outpatient Clinic
ORLANDO, Fla., Oct. 26, 2016 /3BL Media/ – The Orlando VA Medical Center’s Lake Baldwin Outpatient Clinic received a makeover by more than 1,500 Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT) employees, family members and friends as part of the company’s annual Day of Caring. The record-setting number of Lockheed Martin volunteers completed more than 80 projects in an effort to revitalize the facility’s grounds.
Volunteers worked together to build an outdoor kitchen, create a walking trail with fitness stations, restore the main entrance, remodel the conference center, design and build a half-court basketball court, landscape, pressure wash, paint and more.
“As a U.S. Army veteran myself, this year’s Day of Caring effort has special meaning for me,” said Rita Flaherty, Day of Caring executive champion and a business development vice president at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control. “I’m thankful our team of passionate volunteers has a chance to give back to those who have defended our freedom. Our efforts today will help enhance the experience for veterans living at or visiting the Lake Baldwin facility for years to come.”
Last year, Lockheed Martin’s Florida employees logged more than 115,000 volunteer hours, and those in Central Florida donated more than $1 million to non-profit organizations through the company’s employee giving campaign.
“About a quarter of our employees are veterans or active reservists, so the values of service, pride and patriotism are really a part of who we are,” said Jon Rambeau, vice president and general manager of training and logistics solutions at Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems. “The Day of Caring provides a great opportunity for members of the Lockheed Martin community to get out there and do some good for those who served.”
“It is amazing to see how the Orlando community supports veterans of Central Florida,” said Tim Liezert, director of the Orlando VA Medical Center. “More than 1,500 volunteers from Lockheed Martin participated in a day of caring at the Lake Baldwin Outpatient Clinic. It was an honor to have all these volunteers serving those who have served by beautifying this place of healing.”
