Smart Talks Podcast: How Can You Address Racial Injustice With Technology?
Listen to members of the IBM Black Community discuss their experiences and Call for Code for Racial Justice
A person who grew up in the tree-lined suburbs of Los Angeles may not know what it’s like to grow up in the Projects of Compton. An impassioned politician speaking on the topic of armed forces may not know what it’s like to board a military transport aircraft and be deployed to an area of deadly violence. In order to better understand experiences you have not lived through, you first need to start listening to those who have.
On the topic of racial injustice, there is so much to understand. Listen to members of the IBM Black Community: Dale Davis Jones, Britni Lonesome, and Lysa Banks share their perspectives on how Call for Code for Racial Justice can turn frustration into meaningful action through solutions that can help those with the greatest need and impact us all. Check out the Smart Talks podcast below:
In response to the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and too many others, Black IBMers, in their pain, frustration, and exhaustion, had a moment of clarity. They had a vision of an America without social injustice – a vision of using technology to help combat systemic racism.
As a result, Call for Code for Racial Justice was born. The movement encourages people across the globe to channel their frustrations about systemic racism in a tangible and authentic way by getting involved. The projects cover areas as diverse as Police & Judicial Reform and Accountability, Diverse Representation and Policy & Legislation Reform. Your code can make a difference. Take action now.
