Most people don't realise that solid waste reduction along with social innovation in recycling helps address global climate change. The manufacture, distribution and use of products results in greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, waste prevention and recycling helps to reduce these greenhouse gases associated with climate change. One company that understands all this is SC Johnson, the 125-year-old company that held its annual recycling event this summer to help employees, their families and company retirees get rid of clutter while protecting the environment.

This social innovation SC Johnson recycling event is in its seventh year and continues to be a success. Over 33,000 pounds of personal computers, printers, scanners and other electronics were all safely recycled. In addition, other hard-to-recycle items, such as used eyeglasses, cell phones, thermometers containing mercury and small electronics were accepted for safe disposal. Organised by SC Johnson employees, the event reflects the company's commitment to sustainability; SC Johnson employs approximately 12,000 people globally, selling products in virtually every country around the world.

Kelly M. Semrau, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Affairs, Communication & Sustainability, explains, "SC Johnson is committed to doing what's right for the environment, and the Recycling Program demonstrates that employees share that commitment...materials were safely recycled thanks to the passion and the dedication of employees."
