Timberland Commits to Help Advance the Active-Outdoor Industry Through Women’s Leadership
Timberland Global President Jim Pisani recently signed the Camber Outdoors CEO Pledge, committing to innovate and transform the active-outdoor industry by accelerating women’s participation and leadership. Camber Outdoors, formerly the Outdoor Industries Women’s Coalition (OIWC), is the only national organization dedicated to achieving equality for women in the active-outdoor industries. The CEO Pledge is dedicated to ensuring that gender diversity is a visible priority within the active-outdoor industry, promoting the leadership of women, and expanding business growth by attracting and retaining a skilled workforce that reflects the demographics of all outdoor enthusiasts.
“We are proud to join other leaders in the active-outdoor industry in signing the Camber Outdoors CEO Pledge to advance and support women’s leadership,” said Pisani. “At Timberland, we firmly believe we’ll be stronger and more innovative as a brand and as an industry if we build an environment where a diverse workforce with a range of unique experiences thrives. I encourage other leaders in our industry to consider signing the CEO Pledge to better address the needs of both our employees and consumers.”
According to Camber Outdoors, research shows that including more women in decision-making positions drives inspired design and more proactive innovation, often leading to better financial performance. The future of the active-outdoor industries depends on understanding and meeting the needs of a new, diverse participant demographic, and companies that actively increase women in leadership positions will have a distinct advantage.
In signing the Camber Outdoors CEO Pledge, Timberland joins a community of over 60 companies committed to attracting, retaining, and elevating talented women with a passion for the outdoors - including Timberland’s sister brands, The North Face and SmartWool, and parent company, VF Corporation. As part of its commitment, Timberland will begin using assessment tools to track internal progress and implement new employee recruitment and retention practices, helping drive innovation and ensure that diverse experiences and backgrounds continue to be reflected in the Timberland workforce.
