United Airlines’ historic “Flight for the Planet” in early June caught the attention of the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE), which held an “Airports Going Green” conference in Chicago this week.
At that conclave, United was honored with a “2019 Airports Going Green Award” for “Flight for the Planet," which United said at the time was “revolutionary” when it flew between Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport (ORD) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
AAAE members agreed.
The group cited the flight as a first-of-its-kind effort to demonstrate how commercial airlines can minimize their environmental impact with just a few operational adjustments.
