In March, UTC announced an education partnership with the China Friendship Foundation for Peace and Development (CFFPD) to develop and deploy science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education curriculum programs for primary and middle school students in Hong’an, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou. The curriculum will focus on encouraging greater student and parent interest in pursuing STEM related courses and careers. Through this program, students will begin to develop the interest, critical thinking and problem-solving skills necessary to become the scientists and engineers of the future, driving innovation and economic growth around the world.
“CFFPD is uniquely positioned, using its domestic and international relationships, to deliver innovative STEM curriculum units to classrooms throughout China,” said Shen Xin, Secretary General of CFFPD. “Increasing the aspirations and achievements of Chinese students in STEM studies is a shared responsibility among businesses, government agencies and non-governmental organizations.”
In addition to STEM classroom lessons, the partnership will encourage the exchange of STEM skills between students and teachers in the United States and China. STEM summer camp offerings and student-parent STEM lectures and dialogues will round out the partnership’s programs>
