U.S. and China Reach Landmark Deal to Curb Carbon Emissions

China and the United States are the world’s No. 1 and No. 2 carbon polluters. For long the two countries have been seen as antagonists on the path to finding solutions to mitigate climate change. Climate experts believe that unless these two nations can resolve their differences on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, there is little hope of other countries agreeing to mandatory cuts in emissions.

The announcement of a new landmark US-China agreement against the threat of climate change, and staking out an ambitious joint plan to reduce carbon emissions, after nine months of negotiations, is a major step that will have worldwide impact on cuts in emissions. The historic agreement has been jointly announced in Beijing by President Obama and President Xi Jinping.
