As FOX's iconic sci-fi series The X-Files returned to television in January 2016, the cast and creative team worked to ensure that the show remained as timely and ambitious as ever. The new six-episode event reunited David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, and continued to enrich its mythology, introducing new characters and conspiracies at every turn.
FOX was well-represented at the 47th NAACP Image Awards on February 5, which celebrated the year in "outstanding achievements and performances of people of color in the arts, as well as those individuals or groups who promote social justice through their creative endeavors," according to the NAACP's website. The blockbuster drama Empire, which was recently renewed for a third season, won five Image awards.
On February 3, Fox announced the 10 screenwriters and writing teams selected for the fifth annual Fox Writers Intensive (FWI), a competitive fellowship at the Fox Studios Lot in Los Angeles designed to nurture experienced writers with diverse voices, backgrounds, and life experiences. The finalists were chosen from more than 500 nominations and submissions, the largest applicant pool in the program's history, and this year, they will team with the Young Storytellers to mentor elementary school students interested in writing. At the conclusion of the program, each of the finalists is considered for staffing on Fox television, feature film, and digital entertainment productions.

The LGBT advocacy organization GLAAD has announced the nominees for the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards, honoring media projects for their fair, accurate, and inclusive representation of the LGBT community and the issues that affect their lives. Empire, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and Modern Family, all from 21st Century Fox businesses, were among the nominees. The GLAAD Media Awards will be held on April 2, 2016 in Los Angeles and May 14, 2016 in New York.
