New Energy Companies: “Green,” Sustainable, and Profitable

Future growth hinges on the appropriate response to present conditions while strategically developing longer-term plans. For most industries, social, environmental, and political issues are having increasingly greater impact in reshaping the present and future business environment. In particular, the oil and gas (O&G) industry is challenged to reliably and economically deliver transportation fuels in the present day while working strategically to provide “cleaner” energy products in the future.

Long Beach Port Gets Clean Energy Upgrade

Forty years ago when rubber tire gantry cranes were first used at the Port of Long Beach, they were the latest thing in technology to move cargo containers around the port. But the 80-foot-tall green cranes with their 1,000-horsepower diesel engines guzzled 10 gallons of fuel an hour and spewed dirty emissions into the air. The port, working with Southern California Edison, is hoping to help solve that problem with a demonstration project to electrify nine of the gantries at one of its terminals.

Designing Sustainable Water Supply Systems in Africa

Tetra Tech is bringing clean water and effective delivery systems to Liberia to address water sector challenges.

Piped drinking water has not flowed in most of Liberia's secondary cities for a quarter century. Shortly after the Liberia civil conflict began in 1989, these systems were destroyed or fell into disrepair, leaving urban residents dependent on either unreliable or contaminated water sources like shallow wells and surface waters. As a result of the war, local capacity in water supply engineering, operations, maintenance, and management became limited or non-existent. Tetra Tech is implementing the Liberia Municipal Water Project (LMWP I & II), which is funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

Harnessing the Power of the Sun for a U.S. Army Facility

ECN Magazine highlighted the 2 megawatt, 24-acre solar photovoltaic array that is being constructed at the Dugway Proving Ground (DPG) site in Dugway, Utah. This new system will allow DPG’s existing electrical grid to produce 4 million kilowatt-hours of energy per year. Tetra Tech and joint venture partner TriEco are serving as the prime contractor for the design and build of the array. DPG is executing this project to optimize efficiency and conserve natural resources through on-site renewable energy generation and to support their objective of meeting renewable energy goals. This is the first of many prospective renewable energy projects to support to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) renewable energy goals.

Schneider Electric VIDEO | Harmonizing the Habitats of Over 1,500 Species Under One Roof While Reducing Energy Use

How IoT Is Transforming the Energy Industry

As the cost of sensors, devices, edge networks, machine learning, and analytics decreases, the impact of the Internet of Things (IoT) is creating a new industrial paradigm that impacts every industry, energy included. Energy has been evolving in terms of generation and distribution, and the IoT stands to be the most transformational aspect of this brave new world. Here’s how we expect it to affect corporate energy users in the next decade.
