What’s Old Is New: Why Cisco Wants Its Products Back
Cisco’s products power networks and shape the way we live, work, play, and learn. However, they also shape the world in many other ways. We extract natural resources to make and ship our hardware, and our customers rely on this same pool of resources to make their own products and run their own businesses. We can’t keep taking, without giving. It doesn’t last. But as a business, as a society, as a species, that is exactly what we’ve been doing. And it’s not sustainable.

Data Science to Improve Foresight and Decision Making in the Humanitarian Sector
The organization I work for—Mercy Corps—strives to alleviate suffering, poverty, and oppression through economic development and emergency relief programs around the world. This work has always been challenging. We’ve seen firsthand the fragmentation of armed actors in the Syrian War or increasing climate variability in the Horn of Africa, a region already made vulnerable by poverty and violent extremism. Add to this complexity, an emerging digital space where media platforms are used to recruit terrorists, manipulate voters, or incite violence against minorities.

World Refugee Day: Taking Steps for the Globally Displaced
What if San Francisco was suddenly empty? Or New York City? Or both? Imagine over 9 million people fleeing their homes, families and friends, schools, and jobs—leaving two of the United States’ most populous cities nearly empty. Our world would look different—we would notice and want to know what’s going on. We would want to help.

Bridging the Gap to Economic Vitality

Ending Homelessness in Silicon Valley
Santa Clara County is one of the wealthiest counties in the United States, yet it has the 3rd highest rate of chronic homelessness. This statistic is a stark reminder that homelessness does exist in our backyard. Destination: Home’s work is predicated on the Housing First model, aimed at getting homeless individuals and families into housing quickly, and then providing sustainable support systems built for long-term success. With support from Cisco beginning in 2018, Destination: Home launched the Supportive Housing and Innovation Fund to enable the private sector to strategically and seamlessly partner with local government, leverage public funding, and share in a joint approach to prevent and end homelessness.

#CiscoChat Live: Making an Impact on Homelessness
The homelessness challenge may seem enormous, but it is solvable. Organizations like Destination: Home and PATH—with the support of companies like Cisco and local communities—are making an impact across the state. And at Cisco Live US 2019, attendees will have the opportunity to make conquering homelessness possible. Before Cisco Live US kicks off on June 9th, we invite you to join our #CiscoChat Live on Thursday, May 30th at 10 am PT to hear directly from Cisco, Destination: Home, and PATH. They’ll share how we can conquer homelessness, together, and how you can get involved at Cisco Live or in your own backyard.
