LIVESTRONG and RideAustin Partner to Raise Money for People Affected by Cancer
LIVESTRONG joins RideAustin’s “Round Up” program to donate funds to Central Texas charities
AUSTIN, Texas, August 22, 2016/3BL Media/ – LIVESTRONG has joined RideAustin’s “Round Up” program to raise funds for charities through Austin’s first and only nonprofit rideshare organization. After RideAustin began its service in June, LIVESTRONG became one of the first 16 charities that riders can round up their fare for a donation. These gifts will help LIVESTRONG’s free, bilingual programs and services improve the lives of the 113,000 Texans diagnosed by cancer each year.
“RideAustin filled a need in this city, just as we fill gaps in cancer care for people all over the world struggling with the physical, financial and psychosocial effects of a cancer diagnosis,” said LIVESTRONG President Greg Lee. “RideAustin’s inventive approach in tying its mission to charitable work is commendable, and we hope those in our hometown will take advantage of its services to find a safe ride around the city.”
Among the ride sharing options in Austin, RideAustin is quickly gaining in popularity, giving more rides each week than the last, and crossing the 2,000-rider threshold in a day for the first time last week. After only two months, drivers gave their 30,000th ride overall, which included more than 7,500 last week.
“RideAustin was built as a nonprofit in order to serve our community, so we're proud to invite our customers to join us in our mission by using Round Up. Round Up allows riders to round up their fares to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to homegrown nonprofits including LIVESTRONG,” said RideAustin Director of Community Engagement Joe Deshotel. “We believe that by partnering with LIVESTRONG, RideAustin can help a little change from each ride add up to big change for our friends, families and neighbors.”
