Marcone Canada Shows Its Love for Families With Donation to RMH Southern Alberta
Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta receives Valentine's Day and Family Day gift of $5,000 to help critically ill kids and their families.
CALGARY, February 19, 2014 /3BL Media/ - In the spirit of Valentine's Day and Family Day, Marcone Canada reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to kids and families with a $5,000 contribution to Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta, presented on February 13 at the Calgary House.
One of 14 Ronald McDonald Houses across Canada, the Calgary location provides a home and support structure to families of children undergoing treatment for serious illness. According to the charity's website, 717 families are helped annually at the 23-bedroom House. Those who stay are asked to pay only $10–$15 per night, as the bulk of operating costs are subsidized by donors.
"With an operating budget of $3.1 million per year, we rely on the community for financial contributions," says Larry Mathieson, CEO, Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta. "Marcone's generous and continuous support helps us give sick children what they need most…their families."
The $5,000 cheque was presented by Glen Muir, General Manger of Sales for Western Canada at Marcone, along with Marcone's Calgary Branch Manager, Lorie Dirkson. Both were taken on a tour of the House before the ceremony, and as Mr. Muir noted, "It's just a warm, beautifully clean home. No one wants to be sick or see children sick, but if you are dealing with an illness, you would want to be in this facility to go through the healing process."
Part of a multi-faceted corporate social responsibility structure that focuses heavily on children's charities, Marcone's involvement with Ronald McDonald Houses across North America combines both financial and volunteer support. The company has been donating to RMH for more than six years, contributing approximately $165,000 over that time. And staff at Marcone's 52 North American locations regularly visit their local Houses to cook and serve dinner and get to know the resident families.
Ronald McDonald House® Southern Alberta is a compassionate, safe, and affordable home away from home for out-of-town families whose children are receiving treatment in a local Calgary hospital.
