Patti Poppe in Record Group of Women Leading Fortune 500 Companies
Crain’s Detroit Business reports on Patti Poppe’s inclusion in Fortune magazine’s listing of female CEOs of Fortune 500 companies: Fortune says there are 32 female CEOs on the 2017 list — the largest number since the magazine began compiling the ranking in 1955. “It's a particularly cheering stat given 2016's dismal showing, when women held only 21 of the top jobs, a drop from previous years,” Fortune notes.
Two of the female CEOs lead Michigan-based companies: Mary Barra of Detroit-based General Motors Co., which is No. 8 on the list, and Patricia Poppe, chief of Jackson-based CMS Energy, which ranks No. 419.
Both women were among Crain's 100 Most Influential Women list in 2016.
Fortune writes in its profile of the leaders: “Female CEOs in the Fortune 500 aren't quite the norm yet, but they have been making strides.”
